By the time you receive or purchase your crystals and gemstones, they will have been in contact with many many different people. Imagine, they were once deep within the earth, from the time they were initially formed. The miners find them, they will then be packed by someone and transported to a place to be cleaned and maybe carved or polished. They then get transported to a wholesaler, then a shop seller, and finally to you.
Crystals absorb and hold energy, so all the energy from all these people, including all the customers in the wholesaler or shop will have handled and passed their energy, good and bad to the crystal.
So when you bring your crystal home it will need cleansing, to clear all the energies that it has taken on, so that you can form a friendship and work with it.
There are many ways that you can cleanse your crystals, mostly it is a personal choice. If using water though, you will need to research about which crystals can and can't be cleansed this way.
- Cleansing in the light of the full moon.
The energy of the full moon is thought to be able to cleanse the energy of a crystal and then re-charge the crystal with positive energy. It is also thought to renew the natural crystal properties. This photo shows an assortment of my personal collection placed outside for the full moon energies. I like to light a candle and set an intention for the moon to cleanse and energise the crystals.
The salt is thought to absorb the negative energies within the crystal. You can use Himalayan salt, bury the crystal in the small salt crystals and leave for a short time, or place on top larger Himalayan salt chunks. Salt can be abrasive so use this method with care.
- Bury your crystals in the earth.
Crystals came from the earth, and cleansing by burying them in the earth is so natural. Crystals like to be grounded. Once they are buried you can leave them in the earth for some time. Be aware that the earth can be damp, and the moisture can dissolve some crystals, such as selenite.
Sage has been used throughout time as a sacred herb for cleansing. You can use sage sticks, or place sage in a fireproof bowl. You cleanse your crystals in the smoke of the burning sage. The sage will also cleanse the environment around you. I frequently use this method in my little store, and with the crystals that I send out to my customers.
Sunlight cleanses and energises the crystals, simply place them outside in the rays of the sun. Be aware though that some crystals will fade or become brittle in the sunlight.
When using water, you need to be aware of the crystals that shouldn't be cleansed this way. Crystals such as Selenite, Celestite, Fluorite, Azurite and many more can be damaged with water. Some crystals may be ok to place quickly under running water and then be dried, but not submerged. You can use a phase for intention :
- I cleanse you of all energies not in alignment with the golden Christ light, and that don't dance with me in the light.
This I repeat three times whilst moving the crystal in a clockwise direction under running water.
Take your crystals to a lake, the sea, a river, out in nature for cleansing.
- Placing of crystals upon other larger crystals.
You c
an place your smaller crystals upon other larger crystals to cleanse and energise them. I often use selenite plates, or amethyst clusters.
As you can see , there are many different ways that you can cleanse your crystals, you will find a preferred method for each one. Each method has pro's and con's for each crystal type.
Before cleansing your crystals, set an intention and perform the ritual of crystal mindfully.
You will find that if you are using your crystals often, they will need cleansing more frequently.
